Abstract

Universities in Nigeria are losing many of their intellectuals in academia due to withdrawal behaviors which are usually influenced by negative organisational politics. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the connection between three elements of organizational politics and withdrawal Behaviors. The social exchange theory was employed to support the model of the study. To achieve the objective of the study, data was collected via face-to-face questionnaire administration.  371 questionnaires were found useable for further analysis and Smart PLS 4 was employed in making statistical inferences. The finding from the study revealed that general political behaviours have no link with lecturers' withdrawal behaviours while employees' political inaction and reward politics have a sound link with lecturers' withdrawal behaviours. The study offers a better understanding of the extent to which organisational politics influence lecturers' withdrawal behaviours. The study recommends that universities in Nigeria establish policies that will reduce unhealthy political antics.
